Driving school

Instructors are in the car when learners call, and many calls come in the evening or at weekends, so a missed call is a learner who tries the next school. The assistant answers at once, explains the steps for beginners, notes lesson requests for the team, and never promises a pass or a test date.

What it handles

  • Lesson requests for automatic or manual cars, with preferred days and pick-up area
  • Opening hours, location, parking and the prices you have approved for lessons and packages
  • Beginner questions: licence classes, theory classes, what to bring, how the steps work
  • Cancellations, rain and late arrivals noted for the team to follow up

When it hands over to a person

  • A complaint about an instructor or a lesson, or a request for a refund
  • An accident or injury during a lesson (call 995 first)
  • Test dates, foreign licences or licence rules beyond the approved answers

What it never does

  • Promises a pass, a number of lessons or a test date
  • Explains licence rules beyond the approved answers, or gives medical advice about fitness to drive
  • Asks for NRIC numbers or card details by voice

Questions it answers

What are your opening hours?

We're open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 9 pm, and Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 8 am to 6 pm. Lessons run within these hours.

How much is a driving lesson?

A 90-minute lesson starts from S$90, including GST, and weekends and public holidays add S$10. You can pay lesson by lesson, and the team confirms the final cost. Would you like me to note a slot for the team?

Can I book a driving lesson?

Of course. I can note a lesson request, and the team confirms the earliest slot, though evenings and weekends fill up first. Do you prefer a weekday or the weekend, morning, afternoon or evening?

Where are you located?

We're in Ubi, a five-minute walk from Ubi MRT. There is paid parking nearby. Lessons start from our office or from an agreed pick-up point.

What payment methods do you accept?

PayNow, NETS, major credit cards and cash. All our prices include GST. Single lessons are paid on the day, and packages are paid when you sign up.

Are you open on weekends and public holidays?

Yes, we're open Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 8 am to 6 pm. Weekend and public-holiday lessons add S$10 each.

What is the difference between Class 3 and Class 3A?

We teach both. Class 3A is for automatic cars only, while Class 3 is for manual cars and also covers automatic. The lesson price is the same.

How much is a package of lessons?

A 10-lesson package starts from S$850 and a 20-lesson package from S$1,600, including GST. Weekend and public-holiday lessons add S$10 each, and packages are valid for 12 months. The team confirms the final cost.

I have never driven before, how do I start?

The usual order is the basic theory test, then a provisional licence, then lessons on the road, and later the final theory test and the practical test. Would you like the team to explain the current steps?

What is the minimum age to learn to drive?

You need to be at least 18 to hold a car licence. The authorities set the rules and can change them, so the team checks the current steps with you.

Do you offer theory classes?

Yes. Our two-hour theory revision class starts from S$40 and covers the basic and final theory tests. It is held on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, and the team confirms the dates.

How do I take the practical test?

When your instructor says you are ready, the team can request a practical test slot for you. The test centre sets the dates, so we can't promise one, and the test fee is paid separately.

How many lessons will I need?

It varies a lot. Some learners need around 20 lessons and others 40 or more, so we can't promise a number. Your instructor gives you an honest view as you go.

How long does a lesson take?

A standard lesson is 90 minutes. Please arrive about ten minutes early so the instructor can start on time.

What should I bring for my first lesson?

Please bring your NRIC or passport, and your provisional licence if you have one. Wear flat, closed shoes, and bring any glasses you drive with. Arrive about ten minutes early.

Do you pick me up from home?

Lessons start from our Ubi office or from an agreed pick-up point, such as a nearby MRT station or the void deck of your HDB block. The team confirms what is possible for your area.

Can I change my instructor?

Yes, tell the team and they will do their best to match your request, including a male or female instructor. We can't promise a particular instructor.

Do you teach senior learners?

Yes, learners of all ages are welcome. Instructors go at your pace, and the team can suggest a gentler plan. The licence rules are set by the authorities, so the team explains the steps.

I have a foreign driving licence, what do I do?

It depends on which country issued your licence and how long you have been in Singapore. Some people can convert it and others need to take tests. The team checks your details and explains the steps.

Do you offer refresher lessons?

Yes. A refresher course of five lessons starts from S$450, and the team confirms the final cost. It suits licence holders who are returning to driving or new to Singapore roads.

I have a health condition, can I still learn to drive?

I can't give medical advice. Whether a health condition affects a driving licence is for your doctor and the authorities. I can tell you how our lessons work, or ask a team member to call you.

Do you speak Mandarin?

Yes, our instructors and team speak English and Mandarin. On this demonstration line I can only help in English.

Can a family member sit in on my lesson?

For safety, only the learner and the instructor are in the car. Family and friends are welcome to wait in our waiting area until your lesson ends.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain is fine and lessons go ahead. In heavy rain or a thunderstorm, the instructor may move your lesson for safety, and the team finds another time at no charge.

Can I cancel or change my lesson?

Yes. Please tell us at least 24 hours before, and the team will move your lesson to another time at no charge. With less notice, the lesson may be charged.

What if I'm late or miss my lesson?

Please call us if you're running late. If you're more than 15 minutes late, the instructor may need to shorten or move the lesson. A lesson missed without notice is charged.

What if I damage the car during a lesson?

Please tell your instructor straight away. The team explains what applies under our terms, including any excess. I can't say what you would pay, but I can ask a team member to call you.

I failed my driving test, what now?

I'm sorry to hear that. Many learners need more than one try. Your instructor can go through it with you, and the team can request a new test slot.

I'm nervous about driving

That's very common, and you're not alone. Your instructor starts slowly, explains each step and never rushes you. Tell the team you're nervous when you ask for a slot.

Can you guarantee that I will pass?

No driving school can promise a pass, so I don't quote pass rates. It depends on your practice and how you drive on the day. Your instructor tells you honestly when you look ready.

Is that the final price?

The prices I give are starting prices, and they include GST. Test fees go to the test centre, and new learners pay a one-time S$50 registration fee. The team confirms the full cost before you sign up.

Why is it so expensive?

Prices cover the instructor's time, the dual-control car, fuel and insurance, and lessons planned around you. The team confirms the final cost before you sign up, so there are no surprises.

Can you give me a discount?

I'm sorry, I don't have any discounts to offer. A team member can tell you about packages and any current offers.

Can you match another driving school's price?

I can only speak for SafeRoad Driving School, and I can't change our prices. A team member can look at what you need and explain what is included.

Can I get a refund for lessons I don't use?

Refund terms depend on the package you choose. The team explains them before you sign up, and the manager decides on any refund request.

I'm unhappy with my instructor

I'm so sorry to hear that. Please tell us what happened, and a team member will look into it with you and explain what can be done. The manager can also call you back.

Can I speak to a person?

Of course. I can ask the manager or a team member to call you back. May I take your name and mobile number?

Can I get a receipt or an invoice?

Yes, you get a receipt for every payment, and the team can issue an invoice with GST if your company is paying.

Do you record my calls?

This call may be recorded, as I said at the start. Recordings are only used to follow up your request, and you can ask us to delete yours.
